The Organic Acids Test (OAT) has many markers indicating invasive yeast and candida overgrowth. There are also markers on the OAT specific for mold exposure, digestive mold overgrowth and potential toxicity from mold toxins called Mycotoxins. This lecture will discuss these markers, as well as correlate information to the Great Plains Laboratory Myco-TOX profile.

SIBO: Understanding the role of Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth in Functional Gut Disorders.
(Presented 2017)
Many of our clients come to us having experimented with a range of dietary changes to try to control their digestive symptoms, sometimes eliminating important food groups. For some this helps, but many simply end up very confused about food, and often assume that they have developed food allergies. True food allergies are relatively uncommon, and even less likely to develop after childhood. Rather, reactions to food commonly occur due to an interaction between food compounds and the microbiome, and the effect this has on the intestinal wall. Understanding these mechanisms enables us to not only support those suffering from IBS / SIBO and related conditions, but to select appropriate interventions and know when it’s time to swap to an alternate protocol.- Key Topics Discussed:
- Common – and sometimes unexpected causes of SIBO
- A range of clinical presentations of SIBO, including the ‘masqueraders’
- The difference between SIBO and Candida
- The role of lactose and fructose absorption in gut dysfunction
- SIBO diagnostics – what are the options? Interpreting test results
- Treatment to eradicate SIBO: Which antimicrobials to use when and for how long
- The role of diet, pre and probiotics, digestive enzymes and prokinetics

Molecular Hydrogen: Its Action and Exciting Potential Clinical Applications
With over 500 published peer reviewed papers, Molecular Hydrogen is coming to the attention of the medical world with it’s many unique properties, improving symptoms related to conditions affecting nearly all of the body’s organs. Its actions are varied and most noticeably include being a powerful selective anti-oxidant and potent anti-inflammatory agent with an ability to cross the blood brain barrier and enhance mitochondrial function. Molecular hydrogen therapy has shown great improvement in a vast range of clinical settings ranging from reducing symptoms and managing the progression of diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis through to improving athletic performance. This webinar will discuss the current research on molecular hydrogen, its specific unique functions and actions and the options available for delivery of molecular hydrogen in a clinical setting.

The Complex Interplay Between the Mitochondria and Oxidative Stress
Combating oxidative stress and lessening mitochondrial dysfunction are critical first steps to repair normal function. This webinar will discuss the interplay between mitochondria and oxidative stress and how to use nutritional supplements to support the mitochondria and oxidative stress.
Objectives:
- Understand mitochondrial function and how the formation of reactive oxygen species is part of the process but destructive in excess
- Learn about the unique vulnerability of mitochondria to oxidative stress
- Review environmental factors that contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress
- Discuss diseases associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress
- Discuss treatment options to support mitochondrial function and counteract oxidative stress
Mitochondria produce energy by creating reactive oxygen species while simultaneously being very susceptible to its damage in excess. Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Autism along with biological aging have shown progressive failure of mitochondria and increased oxidative stress. Understanding this pathology leads to treatments to slow and prevent this destructive cycle.
Oxidative stress damage mitochondrial DNA. Damage to the mitochondrial DNA leads to abnormal proteins in the respiratory chain, increased membrane permeability and abnormal calcium homeostasis leading to further oxidative stress and finally cell death. Neurons with high energy needs have increased oxidative metabolism and are therefore extremely susceptible to this harmful cycle.
