The antimalaria drug hydroxychloroquine likely inhibits the malaria parasite via inhibition of PLA2. Any benefit of this drug is likely due to its inhibition of PLA2 induced by coronaviruses. The specific PLA2 subtype that causes lung damage has been identified and the increased mortality with age is explained by PLA2 differences with age. Reducing PLA2 is crucial and there are several supplements that can do this, without the potentially dangerous side effects of hydroxychloroquine.
