None of the currently available treatments for any of the VBDs is universally effective and co-infections are nearly universal in patients with chronic VBDs. Therefore, it is common practice to use combinations of medications- pharmaceutical, nutritional and botanical- in these patients. Our chronically ill patients with multiple VBDs have a multisystem, multifactorial illness and in order to help them, all issues must be addressed.
